Couples and Relationship Counselling

Couples & Relationship Counselling in Abbotsford, BC
Deepening Connection, Understanding and Intimacy

Our intimate relationships can be some of the most meaningful, vulnerable, and complex experiences of our lives. They can be places where we feel deeply loved and understood, but also where our fears, insecurities, and old wounds emerge.  I offer a compassionate, nonjudgmental space for people navigating the complexities of love, intimacy, connection, and relationships.  I welcome people in relationships of all configurations, including monogamous, polyamorous, ethically or consensually non-monogamous (ENM/CNM), LGBTQ+ and queer relationships, as well as those exploring or questioning what relationship structures feel most authentic to them.

I believe there is no single right way to love or build a meaningful relationship. Rather than approaching relationships with assumptions about how they should look, I am interested in understanding the unique agreements, values, experiences, and desires of the people within them.

How We Can Work Together

Relationships can become strained by emotional disconnection, communication difficulties, differences in desire, challenges with trust, attachment wounds, or the complexities of navigating intimacy and autonomy.  My approach draws from attachment theory, Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy (AEDP), somatic and experiential approaches, and my ongoing Integrative Sex and Couples Certification Training with Dr. Tammy Nelson. Together, we can explore the emotional experiences and relational patterns that shape how you connect, protect yourselves, and respond to one another.

Our work may include navigating:

  • Emotional intimacy, vulnerability, and connection

  • Communication difficulties and recurring conflict

  • Attachment patterns and relational wounds

  • Sexual intimacy, desire differences, and sexual communication

  • Trust, betrayal, and relationship repair

  • Jealousy, insecurity, boundaries, and relationship agreements

  • Consensual non-monogamy, polyamory, and changing relationship structures

  • Navigating transitions, identity, and evolving relationship needs

Whether you are hoping to rebuild connection, deepen intimacy, navigate a relationship transition, or simply understand one another more fully, my hope is to offer a space where each person's experience is met with curiosity, dignity, and care.

A Space for Relationships of All Kinds

I believe meaningful relationships are built through connection, authenticity, mutual understanding, and the freedom to explore what works for the people within them. My approach is affirming of diverse sexual orientations, gender identities, and relationship structures. I do not assume that monogamy, marriage, or any particular relationship arrangement is the ideal or desired outcome of therapy. Instead, I am interested in helping you explore the relationship you want to create, the values that matter to you, and the ways you can move toward greater understanding and connection. Whether your relationship is newly forming, changing, recovering from a rupture, or navigating a new chapter, counselling can offer an opportunity to slow down, become curious about your experiences, and find new ways of reaching one another.

Emotional and Sexual Intimacy

Emotional and sexual intimacy can be deeply connected, yet they do not always develop or change in the same ways.

Differences in desire, difficulty communicating about sexuality, experiences of shame, changing needs, or the impact of previous experiences can create distance and misunderstanding within relationships. Through my ongoing advanced training in integrative sex and couples therapy with Dr. Tammy Nelson, I am continuing to deepen my understanding of the emotional, relational, and sexual dimensions of intimate connection. My hope is to create a space where conversations about sexuality, desire, pleasure, boundaries, and intimacy can happen with openness, compassion, and without shame.

My Approach to Relationship Counselling

I believe that relationship difficulties are rarely just about the disagreements we can see on the surface.  Beneath conflict, withdrawal, criticism, or distance, there may be fears of rejection, experiences of shame, longing for closeness, or protective patterns developed through earlier relationships.  Rather than focusing solely on changing behaviours or improving communication. I am interested in helping people understand the emotional experiences beneath those patterns.  Drawing from AEDP, attachment theory, and experiential approaches, we can work toward creating greater emotional safety, understanding, and opportunities for meaningful connection.  I approach this work collaboratively, respecting the experiences and autonomy of each person involved.

Begin Wherever You Are

You do not need to be in crisis to seek relationship counselling.  Perhaps you are feeling disconnected, navigating recurring conflict, exploring changes in your relationship, or hoping to deepen an already meaningful connection.  Whatever brings you here, I hope to offer a space where you can slow down, explore, and begin to understand one another in new ways. Every relationship has its own story. I would be honoured to help you explore yours.
