Individual Counselling

Individual Counselling in Abbotsford, BC

A Space to Feel Seen, Understood, and Reconnected to Yourself

Sometimes life asks more of us than we feel we have to give. We may find ourselves overwhelmed, anxious, grieving, disconnected from ourselves, or caught in familiar patterns that no longer serve us. Sometimes we know exactly what is troubling us. Other times, we simply know that something doesn't feel quite right.

I believe that we are all doing the best we can with the experiences, circumstances, and resources available to us. Even the parts of ourselves we struggle with often developed as ways of protecting us, coping with pain, or navigating difficult experiences.

Through individual counselling at The Liminal Space in Abbotsford, BC, I offer a compassionate and nonjudgmental space to explore those experiences with curiosity rather than criticism. You don't need to have everything figured out before beginning. We can start wherever you are.

How I Can Support You

I work with individuals navigating a variety of emotional, relational, and personal challenges, including:

  • Trauma and attachment wounds: Gently exploring the lasting impacts of difficult experiences and relationships, while cultivating greater emotional safety and connection.

  • Addiction and substance use concerns: Exploring the emotional experiences, unmet needs, and protective patterns that may contribute to substance use, with compassion rather than shame.

  • Identity, sexuality, and self-discovery: Supporting exploration of identity, self-worth, sexuality, authenticity, and personal growth within an affirming therapeutic relationship.

  • Life transitions and meaningful change: Navigating uncertainty, major life changes, and the often-uncomfortable space between who we have been and who we are becoming.

You do not need to fit neatly into any of these categories. Therapy is a space for the whole person, not simply a diagnosis or a collection of symptoms.

My Approach to Therapy

My approach is experiential, attachment-focused, and grounded in the healing potential of a safe therapeutic relationship.  I draw from Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy (AEDP), attachment theory, somatic approaches, and humanistic psychotherapy. These approaches share an appreciation for the relationship between our emotional experiences, our histories, our bodies, and our capacity for change.  Rather than focusing only on what is wrong or how to manage symptoms, I am interested in understanding what lies beneath our struggles.  Together, we may become curious about the protective patterns you've developed, the emotions that have been difficult to express, or the ways past experiences continue to shape how you see yourself and relate to others.

I believe meaningful healing can happen when we feel safe enough to experience and understand parts of ourselves that have previously felt overwhelming, confusing, or difficult to approach. Our work is collaborative, individually focused, and responsive to your unique experiences and needs. There is no expectation that you move faster or explore more deeply than feels appropriate for you.

More Than Coping

While developing strategies to manage life's challenges can be an important part of therapy, I believe counselling can offer something deeper.  It can be an opportunity to reconnect with your own inner resources, develop a more compassionate relationship with yourself, and experience new possibilities for how you move through the world.  Sometimes change looks like learning to set boundaries. Sometimes it is allowing yourself to grieve, feeling something you've spent years trying not to feel, or recognizing that you deserve care and connection.  And sometimes it is rediscovering a sense of yourself that has been difficult to access for a long time.  Healing does not always mean becoming someone new. Sometimes it means finding your way back to yourself.

What to Expect From Individual Counselling

Beginning counselling can feel vulnerable, especially if you are unsure where to start or have struggled to feel understood in the past.  Our first sessions offer an opportunity for us to get to know one another, explore what has brought you to therapy, and begin understanding what you hope might be different in your life.  You are welcome to bring whatever feels important, whether that is a specific concern, a difficult experience, or simply a feeling that something needs to change.  My role is to walk alongside you, offering curiosity, compassion, and a therapeutic relationship that honours your pace, autonomy, and lived experience.

An Inclusive and Affirming Space

I welcome clients of diverse identities, backgrounds, sexual orientations, and relationship structures.  Whether you are navigating questions of identity, exploring your relationship with yourself, or living in ways that do not fit traditional expectations, my intention is to offer a space free from judgment and assumptions.  I believe every person deserves to feel seen, respected, and supported in their exploration of who they are.

Sometimes the first step is simply having a safe place to land.
